Sion Talav
Heritage Conservation | Manmade Water Tank
Location – N S Mankikar Road Sion, | Client – Brihnmumbai Municipale Corporation
Sion Talao was a manmade source of water in erstwhile Bombay to provide water for nearby villages and forts. At present, it is used by locals as a leisure space. The talao has been constructed in local basalt stone, and has a striking semicircular arch at its southern edge. The proposed design for beautification of Sion Talao enhances the features of the talao and importance by addition of an organized Ghat, interactive seating spaces, safety railings, and separate immersion areas for festivities. The restoration and beautification of Sion Talao aims at re-instating the value of this water body as a lively social-cultural space.
